New multimedia technologies allow the use of inexpensive and easy-to-use computers and cameras for physical education and training in universities, schools and sports clubs.
Simi VidBack solely needs a notebook with Firewire interface (IEEE-1394) and a common DV camera (camcorder).
Feedback with continuously delayed playback
 Scientific tests have shown that feedback is most effective when it is presented within a few seconds after the execution of the movement. Simi VidBack delays the playback of the camera's signal for the same amount of time that is needed for a person get to the computer screen and view the performance they have just executed. While one person is watching the playback the next person is performing the test.
No rewind, no handling overhead
Conventional video systems require the recording to be stopped in order to watch the video. This impedes the whole test procedure. Continuous delay eliminates the need to rewind the video tape before playback. Simi VidBack is running automatically and requires no user intervention.
Retrospective saving of video sequences
Post processing of teaching or training sessions often requires carefully selected video sequences to discuss certain activities. Recording the whole session takes a high capacity of video memory since 210 MB per minute are needed and the teacher is forced to find and cut the relevant scenes.
Simi VidBack saves a video sequence by pressing a key - in fact after the performance took place! The operator decides whether the sequence was relevant or not and has the opportunity to sort into several categories.
Alternatively the command can be given by remote control.
