3D Motion Tracking System
|
|
|
Simi MotionCapture3D offers top-level optical motion capturing. It helps acquiring movements of objects like humans, animals or machines in three-dimensional space.
Simi MotionCapture3D is part of the Simi Motion system and its module assembly is adapted specifically to the needs of motion capturing.

Fields of application

  | Computer animation sequences for television and cinema
| | Computer and video games
| | Cartoons
| | Simulations |
Features

Simi MotionCapture3D: | captures three-dimensional movement based on video recordings
| | allows unlimited movement of objects in space
| | can be used intuitively and easily
| | evolved from our experience with analysis of complex three-dimensional motion sequences in sports and medicine |
Procedure

Simi MotionCapture3D assists you with transferring movements quickly and easily into your computer. Here you can see a short summary of the workflow.
Advantages

  | Costs of an optical motion capture system are lower than those of systems with sensors.
| | Actors can move freely and unhampered by cables, only colored marking of joints is required.
| | Movements like somersault or wrestling are possible.
| | Several actors like horse and rider, dancers or fighters can be processed simultaneously.
| | Indoor setups are possible as well as outdoor setups, you only need the cameras on the spot.
| | No preparations except calibration of space and marking of joints are necessary.
| | Editing, smoothing and optional analysis of acquired data is possible. |
Data export

The extracted data can be prepared for several software packages. Therefore Simi MotionCapture3D exports the file format of each particular application. If the file export for your software is not yet available or you need some adaptations, just get in contact with us.
The new optional module Inverse kinematics provides even more improved motion data including perfect rotation data. The needed adaptation work of the file export modules for this feature is already planned.
As reasonably possible, the hierarchy between single points defined in the specification is incorporated during the file export (see workflow). This allows the software for instance to generate an entire skeleton structure.
Currently the following applications and file formats are supported: | Maya (native MA), translation and rotation, bones
| | LightWave 3D (native LWS), translation and rotation, bones
| | Softimage|3D and Softimage|XSI (via FTK, in development)
| | 3ds max (via plug-in), captured points as dummy objects
| | character studio (via BVH and CSM)
| | Cinema 4D (via BVH)
| | Poser (via BVH)
| | MOTIONBUILDER (via BVH, TRC and LightWave LWS)
| | CSM (character studio marker file), translation, special marker set
| | BVH (Biovision hierarchical data), rotation, special marker set
| | TRC, translation
| | DXF, translation
| | ASCII, flexible configurable text export |
System requirements

  | Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP
| | Microsoft DirectX 8.1 or later
| | Intel Pentium 4 compatible PC
| | 256 MB RAM
| | large hard disk for video data
| | FireWire interfaces (IEEE 1394) for DV or high-speed cameras |
First of all, Simi MotionCapture3D is a pure software solution. But Simi also offers completely configured computer systems including cameras. Please get in touch with us for more information.
